Areas of Specialization and Interest

  • Veterinary Microbiology & respective immunology, particular interest in Salmonella and E.coli bacteria.
  • Epidemiology and Immunology of infectious disease; specialized in poultry diseases.



  • She has researched extensively in various aspects of Microbiology in various animals, and disseminated the respective research findings through publications in refereed journals and also through participation in scientific conferences and seminars. Currently 2 books on Microbiology (co-authored by others in the Department) and one on poultry management, nutrition and disease are ready for submission to publishers.
  • Has supervised 10 postgraduate students (both MSc. and PhD) in research and thesis writing.


Has 29 years' experience in teaching:

  • Both Microbiology (Bacteriology and Mycology) and Immunology to both Veterinary undergraduates and postgraduates at the University of Nairobi. Also to students taking B.Sc. In Biomedical Laboratory Technology.
  • Disease description to undergraduate Veterinary students covering all animals but more so those of poultry
  • Diagnostics, especially in Microbiology and Immunology and poultry diseases.


  • Veterinary Microbiologist, Immunomicrobiologist, poultry consultant/specialist, registered by college of Pathology, Kenya Veterinary Board.
  • Together with others, she is involved in routine Bacteriological and Mycological and respective Immunological) diagnosis and consultancy, at the University of Nairobi.
  • Together with others, she is doing poultry disease diagnosis, consultancy and disease control through running the Faculty Poultry Clinic and also through ambulatory visitations.
