THEME:
“Food Security and Universal Health Care in Kenya.”
Universal Health Coverage is a component of Goal 3 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations in September, 2015. Goal 3 on health is to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.
Food security is a measure of the availability of food and individuals' accessibility to it, where accessibility includes affordability. Household food security exists when all members, at all times, have access to enough food for an active, healthy life.Drought and conflict are the main factors that have exacerbated the problem of food production, distribution and access. High rates of population growth and poverty have also played a part, within an already difficult environment of fragile ecosystems.
This year (2019), KNAS has chosen the theme, “Food Security and Universal Health Care in Kenya.” With the following thematic areas:
- The Politics of Food Security
- Climate Change and Interventions
- Best Practices
- Funding Mechanisms: Compulsory and Prepaid; Contributory; Public Spending; Health Insurance
- Universal Health Care and Sustainable Development
